Karin Weingart, a Member at Spilman Thomas & Battle, is also Chair of the Federal Black Lung Practice Group. Ms. Weingart’s primary areas of practice are federal black lung, workers' compensation and general litigation. She has defended employers in workers’ compensation claims related to occupational disease, occupational pneumoconiosis, hearing loss and injury. Ms. Weingart has represented employers in appellate proceedings before the Office of Judges, Workers’ Compensation Board of Review and the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, including oral arguments before the Supreme Court. She helped draft legislation for workers’ compensation reform before the West Virginia Legislature in 2003. Ms. Weingart was recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® as "Lawyer of the Year" 2013 for Workers' Compensation Law - Employers in Charleston, W.Va. and was nominated by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of Workers’ Compensation Law – Employers.
