KEMI Becomes Gold Associate Partner of WorkCompCollege.com

Lakewood Ranch, FL (September 20, 2022) – WorkCompCollege.com has announced a Gold Associate Partnership with Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance (KEMI). The partnership specifically supports continued development of the Workers’ Recovery Professional Certification program being produced by the virtual school. KEMI recognizes the importance of the “whole person recovery management” concept at the center of development, as it aligns with their philosophy of both better care for injured employees and better service to the employers they insure.

As part of the agreement, 30 KEMI employees will be some of the first to go through the education program.

Robert Wilson, President of Workers’ Compensation Educational Services, LLC, which runs WorkCompCollege.com, says, “We are thrilled to partner with KEMI and to have their support. They have a philosophy closely aligned with ours and their visionary early adoption of our program means they will be a key component in our success.”

“KEMI is deeply committed to ensuring our claimants receive the best care available throughout the claim process, and that starts with equipping our team members with the knowledge and training necessary to provide an unparalleled experience to everyone we serve,” says Jon Stewart, KEMI President & CEO. “We are proud to partner with WorkCompCollege.com on this new educational platform and we look forward to the opportunity to learn from nationally recognized experts and leaders in the workers’ compensation industry.”

For over a decade, there has been growing recognition of the need for change in the way that injuries and illnesses that are the result of an occupational incident are managed. Cocooned in a highly regulated environment and driven by economic pressures, the workers’ compensation system in many ways has evolved into one that is process-driven, where the humanity of the people served is often not given proper consideration. This often leads to expensive litigation, unnecessary delays, where the satisfaction of outcome by stakeholders is lacking; situations that are needlessly expensive and often produce inferior results.

For the past decade or so, voices have been rising to call for an improved way to manage claims and improve outcomes for these injured employees. Different names and phrases have been used to define this idea – Workers’ Recovery, Advocacy Based Claims Management, Bio-Psychosocial Adoption, Whole Person Care – but all center around the same critical realization. Treating the “entire person,” understanding the psychology and thought process of the injured employee, and employing clear, concise, and consistent communication methods will improve clinical outcomes while reducing friction and cost. Simply put, restoring humanity to the process is a win-win for all involved.

And KEMI’s decision to support this mission through the Gold Associate Partnership shows they are committed to this winning strategy.

WorkCompCollege.com is a community-driven effort designed to address that situation and will help continue the trend towards lower costs and improved results through education, information exchange, and mentorship.

The core certification will consist of content across nine “Schools of Discipline.” They are:

  • General Studies
  • School of Claims
  • School of Humanities
  • School of Legal
  • School of Medical Management
  • School of Regulatory / Legislative
  • School of Return to Work
  • School of Risk Management
  • School of Stakeholders

The base certification curriculum is scheduled to be launched mid-November. State specific, discipline specific, masters and other advanced programs are in the planning stages for development over the next year. In addition, the school will offer other services such as an Alumni Association, Job Placement Services and more.
